About Platres

Platres is an idyllic mountain village surrounded by rolling vineyards and leafy orchards filled with apple, cherry, pear and peach trees. The tiny village is perched on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountain and is known for its cool climate and beautiful scenery.

Hiking trails wind through the mountainous countryside and treat you to spectacular scenery. Some trails lead to tumbling waterfalls and others lead to scenic lookouts. Platres is also a popular base for cycling trips. History buffs shouldn’t miss Trooditissa Monastery, an ancient Orthodox priory founded in 990. In winter, Platres transforms into a base for skiing on Mount Olympus.

In the village centre you’ll find atmospheric cafes, bars and restaurants housed in historic buildings. You’ll be tempted by delicious Cypriot dishes such as “souvlakia” meat kebabs, fried halloumi cheese and “afella” pork marinated in coriander. Wash down your meal with a glass of “zivania” brandy made from local grapes.
