Where to stay in Novorossiysk

About Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk is a bustling port city set on the Black Sea. Stroll along the seafront promenade, visit a family-friendly theme park and discover one of the top maritime museums in the county. The sun-drenched beach resorts of Anapa and Gelendzhik are an easy day trip from Novorossiysk, or you can explore the Abrau-Dyurso wine-growing region.

Things to do

A breezy promenade stretches along the Embankment of Admiral Serebryakov and treats you to fantastic views over the harbour. It’s dotted with monuments honouring the Red Army, Russian Navy and individual maritime heroes.

The enormous Mikhail Kutuzov Cruiser is permanently docked in the harbour and has been reimagined as a maritime museum. Tours take you behind the scenes of the light cruiser, which was once part of the Russian Navy's legendary Black Sea Fleet. Hand-painted ceramics, gemstone-encrusted jewellery and centuries-old artwork are just some of the treasures on display at the Museum of Local Lore.

Lenin Park features family-friendly rides set in leafy gardens. Take a spin on the colourful carousel and feed farm animals at the petting zoo. Walking trails wind through the park and take you past flower-filled gardens and decorative hedges.

Head up the coast to Anapa for a fix of sun, sand and saltwater. The lively resort town complements its sandy beach with vibrant nightlife and a warm subtropical climate. You’re also a stone’s throw from a series of ancient Greek ruins. To the south is Gelendzhik, another popular resort town with a similar vibe.

Venture inland to discover the famous Abrau-Dyurso wine-growing region. The oldest vineyards were established by Tsar Alexander III in the 1800s and are used to ferment award-winning wine.

Getting around

Parts of the Novorossiysk are pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot, particularly around the waterfront area. Taxis are a fast and affordable way to get from A to B, while you can also ride local buses, trolleybuses and “marshrutka” taxis. Anapa International Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away.
