About Terskol

Terskol is a high-altitude village surrounded by rugged mountain peaks and evergreen forests. Take advantage of the ski-in ski-out accommodations or use Terskol as a base for visiting nearby ski resorts. In summer, free-roaming cows walk the streets of Terskol and give the town a charming rural feel.

Things to do

Terskol is just steps from ski lifts that whisk you up the slopes of the surrounding mountains. Step out of your hotel and ski to the local lifts or head to nearby Elbrus Ski Resort set on the flanks of one of the tallest peaks in Russia. At 5,642 metres above sea level, the dormant volcano enjoys world-class winter snowfall. Explore more than 20 kilometres of groomed slopes, some of the highest starting at more than 3,800 metres.

The summer months transform Terskol into an outdoor playground for hiking, cycling and mountain biking. Trails wind through the mountains and take you to tumbling alpine waterfalls and through wildflower-filled meadows. The hike up to Observatoire Pic Terskol starts in the village and rewards you with panoramic views over the surrounding mountains. After a day of hiking, return to the village for a hearty Russian meal. Enjoy classic dishes like “pelmeni” dumplings topped with sour cream and “blini” pancakes.

Terskol is set in Prielbrusye National Park, a protected reserve that immerses you in the natural beauty of the Caucasus Mountains. The Narzan Valley Trail is one of the most popular hiking routes and takes you past bubbling mineral springs. You’ll see lots of Radde’s birch trees, a rare species endemic to the Caucasus Mountains.

Getting around

Terskol is compact and easy to get around on foot or on skis. The village is a two-hour drive from Nalchik and 8.5 hours from Krasnodar. Rental cars are the easiest way to visit Terskol. Nalchik Airport is a two-hour drive away.
