Sightsee in Lleida. Dominated by the hilltop Cathedral of St. Mary of la Seu Vella, Lleida is an ancient city with a rich architectural heritage. Explore the fortified Castell de la Suda, which was originally established in the 9th century by the Moors before being taken by the Crown of Aragon in the 13th century. Occupying a modern masterpiece is the Lleida Museum, which houses everything from Roman artefacts to Islamic and Renaissance artworks.
Visit the Vall de Boí churches. Located on the edge of the Pyrenees, the Vall de Boí is a steep-sided valley that has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its early Romanesque churches. Admire the 12th-century Church of Santa Maria and the architecturally impressive Church of Sant Climent, which is one of the best-preserved in the valley. Also of note is the recently restored Nativitat de la Mare de Deu in the small town of Durro.
Explore Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Encompassing peaks that rise over 3,000 metres, this wild, mountainous region is the only national park in Catalonia. It provides habitat for Pyrenean chamois, brown bears and roe deers, as well as a diversity of birds that include golden eagles and lammergeiers. Hike through the scenic Valle del Rio San Nicolas and to the lake of Sant Maurici or soak up the sweeping views from Los Encantados.
Getting around Lleida
Barcelona–El Prat Airport is the main aviation gateway to the Province of Lleida and has flights to destinations across the globe. Regular trains connect to Lleida and major towns throughout the province. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting around the area.
