Where to stay in Tel Aviv

About Tel Aviv

As Israel’s second largest city, Tel Aviv is a vibrant city brimming with contemporary culture and ancient history. The Metropolitan Area anchors the city and encompasses the CBD. Locals refer to the area as “The Heart of Tel Aviv”. It’s footprint also encompasses the Old North, a major hotspot for tourist attractions and shopping districts.

A love of the outdoors runs deep in Tel Aviv, with locals embracing the bronzed beaches and seemingly endless sunshine. In the metro area, locals enjoy a vibrant coffee culture, as well as an innovative culinary scene. The White City architectural area is a fantastic place to soak up Tel Aviv culture, with a myriad of museums and galleries housed in its 1930s, UNESCO-listed Bauhaus buildings.

Tel Aviv sits on Israel’s Mediterranean coast, 60 kilometres north-west of Jerusalem and 100 kilometres south of Haifa. Officially, it’s bordered by Allenby Street to the south, and the Yarkon River to the north. Hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues pepper the district, which gives it an upbeat and energetic vibe.

While today the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area is modern, it has roots dating back more than 4,000 years. The Gulf of Jaffa has served as a fortified port town for thousands of years, with growth spiking during the 19th century. This spike led to the deconstruction of the old city walls in the 1870s, and the construction of newer, more spacious neighbourhoods like the Metropolitan Area.
