About Artvin

Artvin is a vibrant city and gateway to the Black Sea Region. It’s set on the jewel-toned Coruh River and combines beautiful scenery with a rich cultural heritage. Explore an ancient Byzantine castle, hike in Hatila Valley National Park and refuel with delicious Turkish cuisine.

Things to do in Artvin

From lush green valleys to rugged mountains, Artvin showcases the natural beauty of northeastern Turkey and the Black Sea coast. Hatila Valley National Park is at your doorstep and invites you to discover sun-dappled forests, cascading waterfalls and dramatic volcanic landscapes. A glass-floored observation platform juts into the valley and treats you to dizzying views.

Visit Artvin Castle and uncover the city’s Byzantine legacy. The stronghold is perched on a rocky hillside and commands sweeping views over the city. From the ramparts, you’ll see the turquoise Coruh River snaking through the valley. Finding the overgrown trail that leads to the ruined castle is part of the adventure.

Enjoy panoramic vistas from Atatepe, a scenic viewpoint on a nearby hill. It’s crowned by a 22-metre-tall statue of beloved Turkish statesman, Atatürk. The views are incredible and take in the city centre, Coruh River and surrounding mountains.

Dine at local restaurants and enjoy authentic Turkish cuisine. Try specialties from Artvin Province like “kuymak” potato stew and “mihlama” cornmeal mixed with melted cheese, then drizzled with butter and honey. Fresh seafood is shipped in from the Black Sea and features on most menus. Savour favourites like “hamsi kusi” fried anchovies served with slices of lemon.
