Located on a former mine site, Daly Point Nature Reserve is laced with scenic hiking trails. It's a great place to spot local birdlife, including migrating Canada geese, eagles and ospreys. Just 15 kilometres south of Bathurst, the Pabineau Falls rapids cascade down the Nepisiguit River. It's a great place to unpack a picnic and watch for salmon swimming upstream.

Set in the heart of downtown Bathurst, La Promenade Waterfront features atmospheric boardwalks lined with cafes, art galleries and boutiques. On summer evenings, enjoy live music played under the gazebo. Foodies can snag a table at Nectar, a fine-dining restaurant serving local salmon, lobster sandwiches and perfectly crafted martinis.

Swim and sunbathe on Youghall Beach, a powdery stretch of sand wedged between Bathurst Harbour and the Bay of Chaleur. You can relax on the sand, stroll along the boardwalk or play beach volleyball. Visit at low tide to explore the shallow sandbar.

The pocket-size Bathurst Heritage Museum recalls the city's colourful past. It's housed in City Hall and showcases an eclectic collection of native aboriginal artefacts, vintage snowshoes and military regalia.

Getting around

Downtown Bathurst is easy to get around on foot, while local buses and taxis are also available. Rental cars are best for exploring Gloucester County and New Brunswick. Long-distance buses run to cities like Fredericton, Saint John and Sydney. Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport is a 2.5-hour drive south.
