Located on the long-distance Ceredigion Coast Path, Borth is a picturesque seaside village overlooking Cardigan Bay. It lies between a sandy beach and the raised peat mire of Cors Fochno, which forms part of the only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Wales.
If you’re interested in the village’s railroad history, visit the Borth Station Museum, which features a beautifully restored ticket office and waiting room. Browse the vintage artefacts detailing the area’s lead mining industry and agriculture, then watch the model railway in action. A knowledgeable team of volunteers are on hand in the historic Station Manager’s Office.
Travelling with kids? Be sure to visit the Borth Wild Animal Kingdom, which is home to iguanas, monkeys and big cats. Golfers can enjoy a round on the magnificent course of the Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club, which was designed by Harry Holt and offers sweeping views across Cardigan Bay.
Getting there
Borth is a 15-minute drive from Aberystwyth and just under three hours’ drive from Cardiff. Birmingham Airport is 2.5 hours away and has flights to destinations across the globe. Regular trains connect to the Borth railway station and the village is small enough to explore on foot.
