Busselton may be classed as a city, but it feels like a small town. Fringed by white sandy beaches and the sparkling Indian Ocean, it’s a fantastic place to experience Western Australia’s south-west. Explore the lively waterfront precinct, or venture further afield to hidden beaches, historic attractions and towering tuart forests.
Things to Do
Stretching 1.8 kilometres out to sea, Busselton Jetty is impossible to miss. Stroll to the end, or hitch a ride on the family-friendly train. While you’re there, why not visit the Underwater Observatory for a glimpse at the jetty’s colourful underwater ecosystem?
On a sunny day you can hit the beach and cool off in the Indian Ocean when it gets too hot. Busselton’s bay is well protected, which makes it great for families, snorkelers, paddleboarders and kayakers. For surf breaks head to nearby Yallingup, about a 35-minute drive from Busselton.
When hunger pangs hit, check out the oceanfront cafes and restaurants that line the boardwalk. Find even more options in the town centre, as well as a quirky line-up of gift stores, craft shops, art galleries and more.
If you have a car, the 15 kilometre long Ludlow Tuart Forest Tourist Drive is a great way to get under the canopy of towering tuart trees. Heritage-listed Wonnerup House is also in the area, built in 1859 by one of Western Australia’s first British settlers.
Getting Around
Busselton is just 2.5 hours from Perth, which makes it a great destination for weekend getaways. Most travellers rent a car, which unlocks the freedom to visit wineries, breweries, beaches and neighbouring townships like Margaret River. Long distance buses run from Perth, which is a great option for travellers without a car.
