Where to stay in Deva

About Deva

Spreading across the banks of the Mures River, Deva is home to a towering 13th-century citadel and a collection of museums devoted to ancient civilisations. Many travellers stop in Deva on their way to visit Corvin Castle, a medieval structure featured in numerous film and television productions.

Things to do in Deva

Deva Citadel sits atop a stony hill about 300 metres above the city. Climb the pathway starting behind Parcul Cetatii or take the funicular cable car up the hill. Bring along a picnic to the picturesque ruins of the fortified citadel and enjoy spectacular views of the hills and valleys.

At the bottom of the fortress hill, you can visit the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilization, which sits within Magna Curia Palace, built in 1621. The museum showcases ancient history and cradles artefacts, pottery and rudimentary tools unearthed in archaeological digs.

If you’re travelling with the family, spend a few hours at Aqualand Deva Water Park. Little ones can enjoy kid-friendly rides, while adults can indulge in spa treatments and mineral baths. Have lunch in the on-site cafe and stroll past manicured gardens nearby.

Padurea Bejan Nature Reserve spans 70 hectares within Bejan Forest, offering a chance to spy rare protected plant and flower species. Keep an eye out for nine indigenous variations of the Quercus family of trees, some carrying a distinction of “great scientific value”.

Getting around Deva

If arriving at Arad International Airport, you can rent a car for the 159-kilometre drive to Deva. Most of the city is pedestrian-friendly, but you can also use buses and taxis to get around.
