About Downtown

Downtown Jerusalem is also referred to as “The Triangle” and serves as the predominant hub of commerce and entertainment within the city of Jerusalem, Israel. Jaffa Road, King George Street and Ben Yehuda Street all form the boundaries of the respective region. The area’s concentration of modern landmarks attributes to a growing tourist population.

The Triangle area is considered a major retail hotspot within the city of Jerusalem, equipped with an open-air shopping mall, sprawling streets of souvenir shops, markets, fairs and luxury offerings along King David Street and within Mamilla Mall. Downtown boasts decadent cafes and restaurants, a concentration of cocktail bars and pubs and iconic rooftop sightseeing activities such as from the Notre Dame Center for Jerusalem’s Rooftop Cheese & Wine Restaurant.

The most efficient form of transportation around the area of downtown Jerusalem is by public bus, incorporating multiple lines and route options. The light rail passes through the city centre to outlying neighbourhoods and other parts of town. The downtown area is most easily explored on foot or bicycle due to its small size.

Downtown Jerusalem was once a cultural centrepiece of the city but went through major transformations during the 1960s with the reunification of Jerusalem. It was revived as a shopping and entertainment mecca throughout the 1980s with the construction of shopping malls, restaurants and additional retail areas.
