Visitors preferring to explore the great outdoors can venture to Onkaparinga River National Park. Several buses operate from Adelaide to Flinders University and Flinders Medical Centre. The public bus service operates from Adelaide to Bedford Park and Tonsley campuses. The closest train station to Bedford Park is Eden Hills Station, and Clovelly Park Station allows easy access to Tonsley campus. University Loop Bus Services connect the stations to the campuses. Bicycles, Taxis and Uber are also available.

Flinders University was founded in 1966. It was named after Matthew Flinders, a navigator who surveyed and explored the coastline of South Australia in the 19th century.
