Flinders offers beaches for every occasion. Western Port is a great pick for families, with calm water, golden sand and a grassy foreshore at Kennon Cove. In comparison, the southern frontage is fringed by the rugged cliffs and rolling waves of the Bass Strait, making it a favourite with surfers.
The Flinders town centre is brimming with charm, with plenty of historic buildings housing a collection of quaint cafes, antique stores and art studios. The Flinders Fine Art Gallery is a top pick, showcasing everything from local seascapes to post-modern abstracts.
Much of the Flinders coastline is protected as part of the Mushroom Reef Marine Sanctuary. It's a stunning slice of the Mornington Peninsula, with a sandstone rock platform jutting out from the shore. At low tide, its rock pools and shallow reefs reveal a menagerie of colourful sea creatures.
Sitting high on a cliffside, the Flinders Golf Course is one of Victoria's most scenic places to tee off. As you work your way through the 18-hole course you'll be rewarded with sweeping views over Mushroom Reef Marine Sanctuary and Mornington Peninsula National Park.
Getting around Flinders
Flinders is easy to navigate on foot, with the stroll from the town centre to Western Port beach taking just a few minutes. If you want to explore the rest of the Mornington Peninsula it's best to hire a car. Melbourne Tullamarine is the closest major airport, with the drive taking around 1.5 hours.
