Situated part way between the port of Busan and its city centre, Munheyon-dong is a central sub-district that makes a good base for exploring the city. It’s within easy access to the beaches, mountains and temples for which Busan is renowned, as well as having a few unique attractions of its own.

Don’t miss a visit to Busanjinjiseong, the remains of an ancient walled fortress built during the 16th-century Japanese invasion of Korea. It’s sometimes referred to as Mangongdae in honour of the Ming Dynasty General Wan Shide who helped to reinforce the Korean defence.

Want to learn about Busan’s unique history and culture? Then head to the Busan Museum to the east of Munhyeon-dong. There are artefacts excavated from the Bokcheon Ancient Tomb on display and relics from the Goguryeo-Sui War, as well as a gilt-bronze Bodhisattva dating from the ancient Silla dynasty.

To the north of Munhyeon-dong is Busan Citizen’s Park, set on a former military base used by the Japanese and U.S. armies. It’s set across five different themed areas, with attractive landscaped gardens, children’s play areas and a small museum detailing its fascinating history.
