About North Truro

Overlooking Cape Cod Bay, North Truro is a seaside village surrounded by the Cape Cod National Seashore. It is home to Massachusetts’s oldest links golf course, as well as a lighthouse that has guided ships along the coast since the mid-19th century.

Things to do in North Truro

Golfers can test their skills on the Highland Links, a 9-hole course founded in the 1890s that is one of the most popular in Cape Cod. Perched atop windswept bluffs, it draws on Scottish tradition with its deep natural rough and surrounding heathland. The Highland Links forms part of the Truro Highlands Historic District and offers spectacular views across the Atlantic Ocean.

Also within the district is the Highland Light Station, a Queen Anne-style lighthouse that replaced two earlier towers when it was built in 1857. In 1996, it was moved 135 metres inland from the eroding cliff to its current position. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it features a small museum within its charming keeper’s house.

North Truro is a popular base for exploring Provincetown, which was established on the site of the Mayflower’s landing in 1620. It is clustered with art galleries, restaurants and specialty boutiques housed within its photogenic old clapboard houses. Not to miss is the 76-metre-high Pilgrim Monument, which was inspired by Siena’s Torre del Mangia. The adjacent Provincetown Museum is packed with exhibits detailing the settlement’s early years.

Getting around North Truro

North Truro is a 10-minute drive from Provincetown and an hour from Cape Cod Gateway Airport, which has flights to destinations across the East Coast. The much larger Boston Logan International Airport is just over two hours away. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting to and around North Truro.
