Osaka International Airport, also known as Itami Airport, is a small airport located about 6 miles north of Osaka, connecting major cities in the Kansai region, namely Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe, with other domestic destinations.
Opened in 1939, the airport has lost a significant amount of international traffic since the opening of Kansai International Airport. In spite of its name, the airport handles domestic flights mainly, with the exception of the South Korean Asian’s charter flights.
The airport is easily accessible by bus to different locations in Osaka (Osaka/Umeda Station, Namba, Shin-Osaka Station) or by monorail and train, with one transfer to the Hankyu Takarazuka Line for Umeda Station. It takes no more than 30 minutes to get to the airport either by bus or train.
Osaka International Airport handles flights of Japan’s two major airlines, JAL and ANA, and their subsidiaries, Air Do, Amakusa Airlines and Fuji Dream Airlines to more than 30 destinations in the country.
