Things to do in Tampa
If you’re looking for thrills, head to Busch Gardens Tampa, an African-themed amusement park known for its roller coasters. Turn your world upside down on the Kumba or head over to Jungala, designed for jungle-themed family-friendly fun. If you’re looking for a way to escape the blistering heat, sister water park Adventure Island is right next door.
No trip to Tampa is complete without strolling down the Riverwalk, an attractive downtown corridor that connects many popular destinations and is marked by plentiful green spaces. Along the edge of the Hillsborough River, you can admire the post-modern architecture of much of Tampa’s downtown, seek out public art displays or stop in at the Tampa Museum of Art.
Soak in Florida’s sunshine at the award-winning Clearwater Beach, where its sugary white sands and bright blue waters offer a day of sunbathing, boating and jet skiing. For a dose of culture, head to the nearby Dali Museum to see the most comprehensive collection of Dali paintings outside of Europe. Here you’ll find over 2,000 pieces of art, including eight of his 18 “Masterworks”.
Ybor City is the place to go to for a night out on the town. The area is lined with bars and nightclubs, offering lively entertainment. Ybor City is also a designated a National Historic Landmark, featuring the red-bricked El Centro Español de Tampa and the Centro Asturiano, a famous social club.
Getting around Tampa
Renting a car is the most efficient form of transportation, as the city is sprawling and the motorway network well established. However, if you’re planning to stay in the downtown area, you could feasibly get around by bus or streetcar. Enjoy a water taxi ride down the waterfront to soak up the city’s lively ambience.
