Where to stay in Ustica

About Ustica

Ustica is a sun-drenched island surrounded by jewel-coloured bays and hidden grottoes. Set in the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea, it’s part of the Aeolian archipelago and will dazzle you with its dramatic volcanic landscapes. In fact, the island is the summit of an underwater volcano.

Things to do in Ustica

From sandy coves to rocky bays, Ustica is fringed by stunning beaches. Bask on the black sand at Cala Sidoti beach and cool off in the turquoise water. Family-friendly Cala S. Maria is great for kids, while the intimate and untouched feel of Scoglitti is perfect for couples. Set beneath Punta Cavazzi lighthouse, Piscina Naturale is a natural swimming pool carved into the rocks by wave action.

Strong Atlantic currents keep the waters around Ustica crystal clear. The Island of Ustica Protected Marine Area is a world-class scuba diving destination and immerses you in a wonderland of colourful corals and Mediterranean fish. The snorkelling is also fantastic on Ustica, with many sights easy to explore from the beach. Get up close with enormous groupers, barracudas and amberjacks.

Boat tours are one of the best ways to enjoy Ustica and explore the Aeolian archipelago. From the water, you’ll get spectacular views of the rocky volcanic shorelines. You’ll also unlock access to hidden gems like Grotta Azzurra, a sea cave famous for cobalt-blue water.

Trails wind across the island and immerse you in the beautiful Mediterranean landscapes. The Southern Trail starts at the landmark Tower of Santa Maria and hugs the coast for four kilometres before reaching Punta Cavazzi lighthouse. From the clifftops, you can enjoy sweeping views over the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Getting around Ustica
