About Vågåmo

Vagamo is a picturesque town surrounded by snow-capped peaks and rolling farmland. Set on the banks of a finger-shaped lake, the town puts you in the heart of the Otta Valley. It’s a great base for exploring the picturesque pocket of Norway where you’ll find historic churches, scenic hiking trails and centuries-old farms.

Constructed in the 1100s, Vaga Stave Church is one of the oldest churches in Norway. It’s built from honey-coloured timber slats and is one of the finest examples of 12th-century Scandinavian architecture in the country. Peer into the beautifully preserved interior and stroll around the grassy graveyard.

In the town centre, Jutulheimen Bygdemuseum charts the fascinating history and heritage of the town. The open-air museum is dotted with restored buildings saved from historic farms across Innlandet County.

Finish a day of sightseeing with dinner at one of the town’s cosy restaurants. Enjoy Norwegian meatballs, hearty cabbage stew and fresh trout caught in the lake. For dessert, indulge in homemade apple pie or sugary almond cookies.
