About Bourton-on-the-Water

Bourton-on-the-Water is a fairy-tale village set in the heart of the Cotswolds. The River Windrush flows through the village, meandering through the countryside for more than 50 kilometres before flowing into the Thames. Five stone bridges stretch across the river, the oldest dating back to the 1600s. All were built from locally quarried stone and have earned the village its “Venice of the Cotswolds” nickname.

Centuries-old stone houses line the riverbank and give Bourton-on-the-Water a postcard-perfect feel. Many have been reimagined as charming cafes where you can enjoy tea and scones. Others house independent boutiques selling handmade ceramics, artisan chocolate and fine fragrances.

Attractions like the Cotswold Motoring Museum promise fun for all ages. Admire a gleaming collection of vintage cars and an impressive antique toy collection. At Birdland, you can get up close with owls, penguins, parrots and other feathered friends. The adorable Model Village is a perfect replica of Bourton-on-the-Water - even the houses are built from local Cotswold stone. Peer into the tiny buildings and admire the miniature chestnut, beech and cherry trees planted along the riverbank.
