About Gangshan District

Situated between Tainan City and Kaohsiung City, the suburban district of Gangshan sits on the south-west coast of Taiwan. The district is an ideal base camp to explore the surrounding areas as many attractions sit within an hour’s radius.

Things to do in Gangshan District

The Republic of China’s Air Force Academy is located in Gangshan District and with that comes an interesting museum on all things aviation. Enjoy a morning learning about the history of Chinese warfare at this open-air museum, which boasts old jet fighters, uniforms, missiles and other aviation exhibits.

Just 30-minutes north of the district is Chimei Museum where you’ll find exhibits highlighting western art, local armour and animal taxidermy. After brushing up on the history of Taiwan, head outside to visit the Olympus Bridge and its surrounding lake.

E-DA Theme Park sits just a 30-minute drive south of the district and provides a great day out for the entire family. The park adopts a Greek theme and is split into three areas, including the Acropolis, Mountain City and Trojan Castle. Enjoy indoor rides and a giant Ferris wheel and dine on Greek food at one of the many restaurants.

To the east of Gangshan sits the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum. This impressive place of worship is home to a giant Buddha surrounded by beautiful temples, where you can spend the day exploring the site to learn about Buddhism.

Getting there

After flying into either Tainan City Airport or Kaohsiung International Airport, take the 30-minute drive back to Gangshan District. Once in Gangshan District, public transport and taxis are readily available though car hire is recommended to visit the sites further afield.
