Adjacent to Shukkei-en Gardens, Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum houses a permanent collection of over 4,500 pieces. In addition to artwork associated with Hiroshima Prefecture, the museum features arts and crafts from across Asia and international paintings created during the 1920s and 1930s.
Admire the Imari Porcelain Flower Bowl and the Itsukushima Folding Screen that are among the Important Cultural Properties at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. Kanjiro Kawai and Shoji Hamada are both represented in the “Craft Art of Japan and Asia” exhibit, together with exquisite woven art and metalwork pieces.
Get up close to Salvador Dali’s “Dream of Venus” and Isamu Noguchi’s “Tsuiso (Reminiscences)”, both of which are highlights of the "Works of Art of the ‘20s and ‘30s” collection. Volunteer guides are on hand to help interpret the works, while lectures and concerts are held to complement special exhibitions throughout the year.
Getting there
Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum can easily be accessed from the Shukkeien-Mae light-rail station or is just 15 minutes’ walk from Hiroshima Station. Hiroshima Airport is a one-hour drive away and has flights across Asia.
