About Loudéac

Loudeac is a bustling market town and gateway to the Côtes-d'Armor. Surrounded by rolling countryside and ancient forests, the town combines history, culture and romance. Stroll along flower-filled streets lined with traditional Breton architecture, get lost in an enchanted forest with links to King Arthur and shop for treats at the weekend market.

Things to do in Loudéac

Loudeac dates back to medieval times and was once a stronghold for the Dukes of Rohan. The town is dotted with centuries-old churches and chapels, including the magnificent Eglise St. Nicolas. Built with stone salvaged from a nearby castle, the church towers over the town centre and features a unique domed tower. The lavish Renaissance interior boasts an intricate choir stall carved from wood and marble.

Thanks to green-thumbed locals, Loudeac is overflowing with colourful flowers and is regularly voted one of the prettiest towns in France. Stop at an outdoor café to sip espresso, enjoy the sunshine and soak in the atmosphere. Head to the local weekend market to buy fresh produce, cheeses, wine, pastries and jams.

Forest Loudéac protects 2,500 hectares of coniferous forest. Stretch your legs on 45 kilometres of marked trails and enjoy lunch at one of the shady picnic sites or look out for deer grazing in the woodlands. Further afield is the famous Brocéliande Forest. Steeped in mystery, the forest has links to King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, Merlin the Wizard and other medieval legends.

Learn about the famous Breton textile industry at Maison des Toiles. The museum occupies a beautifully restored 18th-century merchant's house and features exhibits on textile production in the region.
