Overlooking a sparkling bay, Port de Pollença lies near the most northerly tip of Mallorca. It’s home to the pre-Roman ruins of Bocchoris, which is among the island’s oldest settlements, and a military base that played an important role in the Spanish Civil War.
In the heart of Port de Pollença is Plaça Miguel Capllonch, which features a bronze bust of the beloved Majorcan pianist, Miquel Capllonch Rotger. Admire the Church of Our Lady of Carmen before relaxing in one of the square’s alfresco cafes or pick up fresh produce and local crafts at the weekly market.
Be sure to stroll along the scenic Pine Walk, which boasts magnificent views across the bay and leads past a bronze bust of the Spanish artist Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa. The walk is said to have inspired Agatha Christie’s short story, “Problem at Pollensa Bay”, and connects to an old military base where fighter aircraft can be seen.
Getting there
Port de Pollença is around 15 minutes’ drive from Alcúdia and 45 minutes from Palma de Mallorca Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Buses connect to Port de Pollença and the town is small enough to explore on foot.
