If you’re interested in culture, visit Haw Par Villa, an educational theme park that uses giant statues and dioramas to share Chinese mythology and religious stories. You can also stop by the Former Malayan Railways Historical Marker, which has informative signs detailing Singapore’s past with Malaysia. It’s a short walk from the MES Theatre, a contemporary performing arts venue that hosts plays and musicals.

Head to Queensway Shopping Mall to browse a range of fashion, homeware and sporting stores. Try the decades-old local delicacy, Katong Laksa, at Marine Parade Laksa, which is known among locals for the noodle-based dish. Afterwards, sweeten things up with the fluffy and crunchy tutu kuehs at Lau Tan Tutu Kueh. These local treats come with coconut, peanut, chocolate or red bean fillings.

Stretching 1.4 kilometres down Tanglin Road, Alexandra Canal Linear Park is one of Singapore’s best-kept secrets. Escape the crowds in this waterfront park, which features serene walking trails, an outdoor stage and a peaceful canal coursing through the centre.
